Qatari Hamad International Airport changed how it spells the Ukrainian capital, moving from “Kiev” to “Kyiv.”
The renaming comes as a part of the effort by the government of Ukraine to shift from the Russian interpretations of its countries’ names to the Ukrainian versions – when transcribed from Cyrillic letters into Latin ones.
“Good news! Thanks to the Embassy’s work on #CorrectUA, Hamad International Airport in Qatar has corrected the spelling of our capital city of Kyiv on its official website. Now we have Kyiv!” stated the Embassy of Ukraine in Qatar.
Earlier, Belgium joined a growing list of countries who’ve made the change.
