The national teams of Portugal and Ukraine finished the first qualifying game for the Euro-2020. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, which is actually a huge win for the Ukrainian team, Xsport.ua reported.
The match was filled with many dangerous moments, the Ukrainian team tried to attack Portugal at the beginning of the match, but spent most of the match on the closer half of the field.
Junior Moraes, who replaced Roman Yaremchuk at the 76th minute of the match, was playing his debut for Ukrainian national team. The Brazilian-Ukrainian player could have scored the winning goal, but a defender of the Portuguese team outstripped the striker.
Portugal was also unable to convert any goals. Carvalho scored a goal for Portugal at the 18th minute but it was disallowed due an offsides call against Portugal.
André Silva had a chance but was denied. Near the end of the game, the Ukrainian goalkeeper was able to block a long range shot by Portugal.
“Today, we have not let the European champions score on their own field. I think it is a great result. Portugal was very well reorganizing, very well pressing. I am satisfied with my team by 80%,” Head Coach of the Ukrainian National Team, Andriy Shevchenko said.
