Thousands of cars flooded the streets in the governmental quarter of Kyiv, creating traffic jams in the area. Owners of European cars were protesting near the Ukrainian Parliament over the extension of the customs tax concession period. A clash between law enforcement officers and participants of the action, involving dozens of people from both sides, broke out after police arrested one of the participants during the protest action.
According to the police report, the arrest occurred after one of the protesters tried to run over a police officer.
“Participants of the action were blocking the traffic of Shovkovychna and Hrushevskoho streets. When law enforcement officers tried to fix the situation, one of the participants tried to run over a police officer,” the report states.
Also, according to the report, during the arrest, officers used tear gas in order to subdue the protestor, who was threatening to cut his veins with a knife.
As a result of the clashes, one officer was injured and he required medical aid.
According to the organizers of the demonstration, the clashes started after the police officers engaged in a violent arrest of that particular participant, who, they say, was doing nothing but sitting in his car.
