Ukraine at China World Trade Expo

Ukraine is represented by a delegation of more than 200 entrepreneurs and government officials

Opportunities to trade, invest, and innovate are available to the tens of thousands of visitors to the China International Import Expo.

Delegations from all over the world are presenting at the expo, including one from Ukraine. Ukraine is represented by a delegation of more than 200 entrepreneurs and government officials. It is presenting hundreds of products in the spheres of mechanical engineering, agriculture, IT, and others. Clever gadgets, creative graphics and handmade products made in Ukraine are all part of the delegation’s presentation.

“I think it is a fantastic opportunity to show itself to the world not only to China. This is a place where you can meet at least 30 countries with their stands. It’s a really unique opportunity for Ukraine. China is one of the largest economies in the world. If the purpose is to count the trade arena globally than China is the best place,” Claudio Viezzoli, the managing director, SME Finance European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said.

Interactive tables for playing games, surfing the internet and ordering food was one of the highlights on the show. Yet, other Ukrainian companies not present here are not left out.

“At the national stand, we created an opportunity for the companies who were not able to come here to talk about themselves. We developed an electronic catalog. The form was filled by more than 180 Ukrainian companies. So potential partners can contact them even if they aren’t physically here,” Maryana Kahanyak, the Head of Export Promotion Office said.

The stage concept took months of preparation but for the Ukrainian delegation the work is already paying off.

“Yesterday, during the meeting with the Chinese trade representative, we formed the agenda for the meeting of the Ukraine-China commission in Beijing in 2019. Yesterday we confirmed the priorities of innovative modernization of mechanical engineering, reformation of the agrarian sector and the formation of a clear roadmap to receive common cooperative enterprises between Ukraine and China,” Stepan Kubiv, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine said.

At the event, Ukraine’s postal service unveiled a bespoke envelope and stamp for the China International Import Expo. Perhaps symbolic of the future cooperation Ukraine hopes to build with global markets, especially China.
