Confectionery Masters Compete
The first official Ukrainian National Confectionery Championships was held in Kyiv. More than 100 kilograms of chocolate was used to create stunning sculptures and tasty treats
They were the creations of confectioners who had carefully crafted their chocolate designs throughout the day. They were tasked with creating the most beautiful confection- one that would send the winner to Paris to compete at an international competition.
Throughout the process, chefs hailing from France and Ukraine served as judges, closely watching over the competitors.
“First of all, we look at the speed, the cleanliness of the work, the taste and the concept. I believe the fact that we’re finally getting to the European level to be a really cool breakthrough for Kyiv,” judge Valeriy Sazanovskyi said.
This is the first time that Ukraine has hosted a championship of this level. Organizers aimed to promote the prestige of the confectioner profession.
The winning piece was done by an Odesa Chef who dedicated it to Anna of Kyiv.
“I didn’t expect this to happen. I was so preoccupied with the process that I didn’t think about victory. All I could think about is how to complete everything as it should be. There were some sleepless nights. It was such painful preparation, four months of preparation,” winner Ruslan Hromavkyi said.
