Donbas Militants Seek to Imprison Ukrainian Journalist for 15 years
The Russian-backed occupiers' "prosecutor's office" convicted the journalist of "espionage"
The self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic” have spread information on their websites about the “sentencing” of Ukrainian blogger and journalist Stanislav Aseyev to 15 years of prison.
The so-called “prosecutor’s office” convicted the Ukrainian journalist on fake charges of “organizing an extremist organization,” “espionage,” “inciting to espionage,” “public calls for extremist activities,” and “public calls for actions aimed at violating territorial integrity.”
The “sentence” has already come into force as Aseyev’s disappearance was first reported in early June 2017. It was six months after he first vanished that the ‘DPR ministry’ first admitted they were holding the journalist captive and said that he was suspected of “spying.”
The United States Congress and the International Committee for the Protection of Journalists urged the militants to release Aseyev.
