One cannot trade reforms for money – the president about the IMF
Ukraine will fulfill its obligations to the International Monetary Fund and may receive a tranche in the fall.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with Agence France-Presse, Reuters and Associated Press on June 14, the Office of the President informs.
According to the head of state, there are “signs” that the IMF expects from Ukraine, in particular, judicial reform. Today the tranche is tied to such “signs”.
“I think it is unfair when we have war, when we are fighting the oligarchs, when we are fighting corruption and we are really doing it. However, this is their right”, – Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The president explained that, in his opinion, it was unfair on the part of the IMF to “tie certain “signs” to certain tranches.”
“Because reforms are for us. One can’t trade reforms for money. That’s what we are talking about”, – the head of state said.
The President stressed that “the strategy and tactics of the IMF’s behavior towards Ukraine cannot be compared with many countries.
“It is not fair to put it on par with others. We have a complication, there is a war. Moreover, money is not spent on priorities from the point of view of the economy, but on the priority from the point of view of security. First the military and medicine, then – everything else”, – Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.
