Ukrainians prefer non-cash payments – National Bank of Ukraine
In the first quarter of 2021, the total number of non-cash transactions and cash withdrawals using bank cards amounted to 1.691 billion units, and their amount – to $40,370,370. Compared to the same period in 2020, the figure increased by 22%, and the amount – by 18.3%.

According to the National Bank, the obvious primacy is held by non-cash transactions (both in number and amount) and contactless – 9 out of 10 were non-cash. Their share in the total amount made 61% of all card transactions.
The number of contactless cards used for transactions has grown by almost 10% since the beginning of the year – to 14,100,000 cards.
It is also reported that almost every 10th active payment card is tokenized. Their number is 4,200,000. This is 6% more than at the beginning of the year.
Two-thirds of transactions in POS-terminals in terms of amount and quantity are contactless transactions (transactions with a contactless card or using smartphones and other gadgets).
The number of payment cards in Ukraine increased by 3% to 75.3 million since the beginning of 2021. More than half of them – 54.2%, were used in March to carry out debit transactions.
