Facebook Hires First Ukrainian Manager to Combat Misinformation

Facebook's intention to appoint a public policy manager for Ukraine became known last October

Facebook hired its first public policy manager for Ukraine who will work to fight misinformation on the popular online social network.

It chose Kateryna Kruk, analyst and host of the Stop Fake project – a project intended to combat Russian misinformation – for the position, Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Dmytro Zolotukhin said.

Zolotukhin said that Ukraine has been awaiting this decision for years.

“We in the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine believe that this is the best choice that Facebook that could have made. Kateryna is a well-known expert in the information sphere, a speaker at all the relevant conferences on misinformation in recent years, and a principled and honest person,” he said.

Facebook’s intention to appoint a public policy manager for Ukraine became known last October.

“We hope that after this appointment, the rough and unprofessional attitude of Facebook towards Ukraine and Ukrainians will finally stop,” Zolotukhin said.
