Fifty-Four Convicts Brought to State-Controlled Ukraine From Occupied Territories
The convicts had been serving time in the occupied Luhansk region prior to the occupation
Another transfer of Ukrainian prisoners from the temporarily occupied areas of the Luhansk region to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine took place near Shchastia (20 kilometers north of Luhansk) today (Sep. 12).
“Today, on the bridge in Shchastia, there was another transfer of 54 citizens of Ukraine, who were held in the penitentiary institutions in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region and were detained or were serving their sentences for crimes at the time of the occupation of Donbas,” Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova wrote on her Facebook page on Thursday.
Denisova said that this was the seventh stage of the transfer of prisoners from the occupied areas. According to Denisova, from December 2018 till the present day, some 373 convicts have been transferred from occupied Donbas to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine.
