Gareth Jones, a film made jointly by Ukraine, Poland and the United Kingdom, will take part in the main competitive program of the 69th Berlin International Film Festival, the Ukrainian State Film Agency reported.
Based on real events, the dramatic thriller chronicles a British investigative journalist as he travels deep into the Soviet Union to uncover the truth about Stalin’s crimes and Holodomor in Ukraine. He saw the starvation with his own eyes, and without hesitation, he spoke loudly about this to the world, but no one listened.
In March 2018, filming took place in Ukraine, followed by an international team working in Poland and Scotland.
The director of the film is the head of the European Film Academy and an Oscars nominee, Agnieszka Holland.
The main actors are James Norton, Vanessa Kirby, Peter Sarsgaard, Joseph Moul and Kenneth Crowne. The Ukrainian actors are Yakov Tkachenko, Oleh Drach, Volodymyr Fedoruk, Anna Shaidyuk, Anastasia Chala and Alina Kovalska.
An official release of the movie in Ukraine is scheduled for fall 2019.
The film festival will be held from Feb. 7 to 17.
