First ‘Zakhar Berkut’ Teaser
The historical drama's premiere is scheduled for Oct. 10
Today, the first teaser for the upcoming Ukrainian historical drama, Zakhar Berkut, was released.
Zakhar Berkut is the story of an independent Ukrainian community living in the Carpathian Mountains during the 13th century, its struggle to preserve its age-old democratic form of government from enemies within Ukraine and to repel the fearful Mongol horde which had devastated the rest of the land.
“The movie promises to become a spectacular and large-scale project based on a famous Ukrainian story written by the Ukrainian writer, Ivan Franko,” Dergkino (the Ukrainian State Film Agency) Chairman Pylyp Illenko said.
Zakhar Berkut director, Akhtem Seitablayev, who also directed “Cyborgs,” a film about the group of military volunteers who withstood heavy Russian-backed militant attacks on the Donetsk Airport for 242 days, gathered an international team for the project, which, incidentally had a Soviet interpretation, back in 1972.
The team will include Robert Patrick, the Hollywood actor known for his role as T-1000 in “Terminator 2: Judgement Day,” U.S. filmmaker John Wynn, who previously worked with Guillermo del Toro and the Marvel company, and U.S. producer Jeff Rice, who worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Silvester Stallone, Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, among others.
It is to be released next year on Oct. 10.
