Ukraine’s national oil and gas company Naftogaz rejected Gazprom’s offer for a discount on gas as unprofitable for Ukraine.
The offer was made today by Gazprom chief Alexey Miller.
“These all-round dances with Boyko and Medvedchuk are an attempts to find those in power in Ukraine who, because of their corruption and incompetence, would have done what Russia wants, contrary to the interests of Ukraine. For Boyko and Medvedchuk’s electorate, I can say that we had the same offer, and we refused because it is not profitable for Ukraine. I personally, as the head of the Naftogaz delegation at the bilateral talks with Gazprom, was suggested this by Gazprom,” commercial director of Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko said, LB.UA reported.
Vitrenko said that in fact, there is no discount from Gazprom.
“At first, they overestimate the price by 100 percent of the fair market price and then give a “discount” of 24 percent,” he said.
Vitrenko said that Naftogaz had tried for another year to resume the purchase of Russian gas as part of the implementation of a decision by Stockholm arbitration, but Gazprom decided not to fulfill its contractual obligations.
“We are always ready for negotiations, but only in a trilateral format, any new contracts should be concluded on the basis of European norms and with respect for the decisions of international arbitrations,” Chief Executive Officer of Naftogaz Andriy Kobolyev s Andriy Kobolyev said.
