The Bush family, led by the son and former President George W. Bush, accompanied his father’s body to the steps of the Capitol.

Members of Bush’s cabinet, lawmakers and Supreme Court justices honored the 41st president with eulogies.

House Speaker Paul Ryan praised George H.W. Bush as a “great patriot.”

“As Americans, we have no more solemn duty than laying a great patriot to rest. Here lies a great man. To the Bush family, on behalf of the whole house, Republicans and Democrats, we are profoundly sorry for your loss and we are honored to celebrate this wonderful life with you,” Ryan said.

On Monday, a four-day tribute began in the nation’s capital to the 41st president.

Bush’s casket will remain at the U.S. Capitol for three days, then a funeral at the Washington National Cathedral and burial at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Texas will be held.
