Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk had a meeting with Director-General of the European Commission Directorate-General for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Christian Danielsson.
“European and Euro-Atlantic integration is our key priority. And we are not just talking about that, we prove it with our actions. In five years, we want to get as close as possible to EU membership. And on this path we need your help,” Honcharuk said during the meeting.
Honcharuk added that Ukraine hopes for a special format of partnership within the framework of the Eastern Partnership initiative, and emphasized the interest of Ukraine in signing the ACAA (Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products). This would create a so-called “industrial visa free regime,” which would be a significant step on the path of Ukraine towards European integration.
Danielsson agreed, stressing the importance of the European Commission to explore this issue for further negotiations and the conclusion of the ACAA. The parties agreed to discuss the implementation of this process at a later date.
Meanwhile, Honcharuk expressed his hope that the European Union could implement, as soon as possible, municipal projects in the Azov Sea region, which the EU Assessment Mission included in the report “EU Support to the Azov Sea Region: Proposals for Additional Actions” in early 2019. This report envisaged, in particular, a waste collection and treatment project in Mariupol and a trolleybus transport services development project in Kherson.
Honcharuk also called on the European Union to invest in the seaports of Mariupol and Berdiansk.
At the end of the meeting, Honcharuk thanked Danielsson for the support the European Union is providing to Ukraine and expressed the commitment of the Government to further strengthening bilateral relations.
