Tsurenko to Compete for Spot at Tennis Finals
Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko will compete with Naomi Osaka for a place in the finals of the WTA Premier tournament
Ukraine’s second-seeded tennis player and world No. 27 Lesia Tsurenko has won through to the semifinals of the WTA Brisbane International.
The WTA Premier tournament prize fund is $1 million.
Tsurenko defeated Estonian champion Anett Kontaveit (world No. 20) in two sets with the score of 7:5, 6:3, BTU reported.
The game lasted for one hour and 32 minutes.
In a semifinal on Jan. 5, Tsurenko will play with from Japanese champion Naomi Osaka, who is ranked fifth in the world tennis rankings.
“Osaka is an excellent tennis player, she is always focused. This will be quite a heavy match for me, I’m convinced. But I will be ready. I already waiting for future games to come,” Tsurenko said.
Tsurenko also played in the semifinals of the Brisbane tournament in 2013.
