According to Radio Free Europe, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Russia should comply with its 2008 ceasefire agreement with Georgia.
He held a press conference in Washington DC, with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili on Monday.
Pompeo called on Russia to end its recognition of Georgia’s Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions as independent states and provide access for humanitarian aid to these regions.
“The United States unequivocally condemns Russia’s occupation on Georgian soil. Russian forcible invasion of Georgia is a clear violation of international peace and security and goes against the basic principles of the chart of United Nations and the Helsinki Final Act. The Russian-Occupied Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions are part of Georgia. The United States supports the Georgias territorial sovereignty and territorial integrity with its internationally recognized borders,” Pompeo said.
