The State Executive Service of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine recovered to the benefit of the state  ₴55 million (about $2 million) and $1 million from the Cypriot companies associated with former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and former high-ranking officials.

Yanukovych is thought to have stolen billions of dollars from Ukraine before being toppled by Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity in 2014. Some stolen funds are thought to be funding separatists in Donbas.

On Tuesday, Ukraine received some portion of them – specifically  ₴55, 342,762 and $1,010,072.

“The funds were recovered to the benefit of Ukraine under the execution of a court sentence on application of special confiscation with the forcible withdrawal of the funds owned by EROSARIA LTD and Aldoza Investments Limited, placed on the accounts in JSB Ukrgasbank,” Ukrainian Deputy Justice Minister Svitlana Hlushchenko said, the ministry reported.
