Starting December 1 there will be a new rail line between Kyiv and Boryspil airport. Once constructed, it should take passengers 35 minutes to travel between Kyiv and Boryspil.
Currently, it can take an hour or more as passengers rely on buses, taxes, and marshrutkas to get them to and from the airport.
The number of travelers flying in and out of Ukraine has been increasing as demand has been rising. A number of new airlines – such as Ryanair and Pegasus – and new flights have been coming. According to the government, annual Boryspil-Kyiv passenger traffic even hit 8 million passengers last year.
According to Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman’s press service, the state-run rail company, Ukrzaliznytsia, has already sent in its final design for its project, which would run from Boryspil’s Terminal D to Kyiv’s Central Railway Station via Vydubychi Station – and that design is undergoing approval.
“It is important to complete the project by December 1 and give passengers an alternative route to get to the airport or from the airport, via the city, to other cities of Ukraine,” Groysman said.
