Oleh Sentsov Refuses to End Hunger Strike
It is already the 9th day of his hunger strike
According to the words of his lawyer, after more than one week into his hunger strike in Russian captivity, Ukrainian filmmaker Oleh Sentsov is prepared to continue refusing food – even if it means death.
According to Ukrinform, Sentsov is demanding the release of all 64 Ukrainian political prisoners held by Russia. He hopes to draw international attention to their plight before the 2018 football World Cup begins in June.
His lawyer said the following: “I tried to persuade him to stop the hunger strike and offered him to try and resolve the issues that he listed in his statement through legal means. Oleh responded that he has no trust in the Russian justice and that he will not negotiate under any circumstances and will continue waiting for them to meet his demands, which is what he is doing.”
“There are only two options, or they will fulfill my demands, or I will die in this prison,” stated Oleh Sentsov.
