Olga Kharlan Takes World Title in Saber
She defeated Russia's Sofia Velikaya with a score of 15:14
Ukrainian saber fencer Olga Kharlan won the World Fencing Championship in Budapest.
In an intense final, Kharlan defeated 7-time world champion and Olympic champion from Russia’s Sofia Velikaya with a score of 15:14, xsport.ua reported.
After defeating rivals from Malaysia, Georgia and the Republic of Korea, Kharlan beat compatriot Alina Komashchuk (15:14) in the quarterfinals and defeated Romania’s Bianca Pascu (15: 5) in the semifinals.

One of the best saber fencers in the world, Kharlan also holds a bronze medal from both the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Olympics and is now a six-time world champion.
