Ukraine’s Economy Growing – Poroshenko

Poroshenko spoke at the 15th Ukraine investment forum in Kyiv featuring Ukrainian entrepreneurs, economists, and state officials

At the 15th Ukraine investor conference this week, President Petro Poroshenko said that the worst is now behind for Ukraine’s economy.

“Today it’s obvious that it’s impossible not to invest in Ukraine anymore. Allow me to make an assumption. The economy has been growing for 12 quarters in a row. GDP growth is 3.4 – and it’s the largest economic growth over the past seven years. The banking system is stable and demonstrates a record profit now. The Hryvnia is strengthening while maintaining gold reserves and building them up,” Poroshenko said.

The president said that investment policy could be improved by focusing on several fields like education and salaries. He also talked about the importance of reducing poverty in Ukraine. A keynote speech was also delivered by former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt. Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman also spoke.

Ukraine has huge potential in terms of growth in the IT sector. Many of the conference goers said expectations from investors remain high. Government officials said the development of the Ukrainian economy, especially tourism and transport, continues to be a top priority.

In the meantime, discussions and one-on-one meetings with experts will continue this week as part of the 15th Ukraine investor conference.
