Poland, today, joined the world action, Light a Candle of Memory, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine, the Ukrainian embassy in Poland wrote on Facebook.

Employees from the embassy, the Ukrainian community and students of Ukrainian Saturday schools, lit candles near the Holodomor memorial at the Volga Orthodox Cemetery in Warsaw.

The people who attended read the names of 85 children who died during the famine.

Vasyl Zvarych, Ukraine’s minister-counselor in Poland, and Piotr Tyma, the chairman of the Association of Ukrainians in Poland, addressed the people who had gathered, and urged them to always remember this tragedy.

Light a Candle of Memory started on Sept. 1. It is held daily by Ukrainian embassies and general consulates in different countries of the world and will last for 85 days, ending on Nov. 24, in Kyiv. In every city, 85 names of children are read.
