Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz proposed appointing a Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Ukraine.
A Special Envoy is a senior member of the United Nations tasked with dealing with a specific set of issues.
The European Union and the United States should also join the Normandy contact group – the group which seeks a resolution of the Donbas conflict and which currently includes Ukraine, Germany, France, and Russia – Czaputowicz said in an interview with “Handelsblatt,” a German newspaper.
“Germany and France may think that they represent Europe, but it is not so actually. Only European institutions can represent us, in this case, the High Representative (of the EU), not other countries,” Czaputowicz said.
This year Poland is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
