President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated the military and veterans of the National Guard on the 7th anniversary of the establishment of this military formation with law enforcement functions.
This was reported by UATV with reference to the Office of the President.
According to the President, the history of the National Guard is linked with the recent history of the struggle of the Ukrainian people for their own independence and territorial integrity.
“At a critical moment for the state, the newly formed formation united the military, law enforcement and patriotic volunteers. From the first days of the Russian aggression, you were at the epicenter of events that decided the fate of Ukraine,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
He noted that thanks to the active participation of the National Guard, their stability and courage, it was possible to stop the spread of the “virus of separatism” in Ukraine.
“In Kramatorsk, Mariupol, Slavyansk, Severodonetsk, Lysychyansk and in dozens of other settlements of Donbas, the blue-yellow Ukrainian flag flew up again. And also – our flag remained flying over Kharkiv in the most intense days of the confrontation. Then we were able to defend almost all of Ukraine”, – said the president.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the National Guards perform tasks not only in the area of the Joint Forces operation, but also where there is an urgent need for law and justice.
According to the President, more than 1500 National Guardsmen were awarded high state awards, and 5 soldiers were posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
“I am sure that for most Ukrainians you are all heroes who go to work every day to keep the peace of citizens and society. And the society is grateful for the high rating of trust in the soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine, which is one of the largest among military and law enforcement agencies,”- said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The National Guard is developing a doctrine based on NATO principles.
