The meeting place of the presidents of Ukraine and Russia can be the Vatican. The possibility of holding negotiations in this city-state is not ruled out by the head of the Ukrainian state, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He said this in an interview with the Italian Newspaper La Repubblica, UATV reports referring to the presidential press service.
Zelenskyy called the Vatican “an ideal place for dialogue concerning peace”.
“Of course, the meeting place should inspire confidence on both sides. Then it will be effective, and we will really be able to speak,” he said.
A meeting with Putin will definitely take place, because it is necessary to end hostilities in Donbas, the head of the state emphasized.
“It is needed in order to end the war in Donbas”, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
At the same time, he noted that questions about the agenda of the talks, steps to achieve peace and the coordination of these steps are still open.
“These are open questions, and we will receive answers to them, in my opinion, after direct consultations between the Office of the President of Ukraine and the Administration of the President of Russia will start. For my part, I have already given all the relevant orders for organizing consultations to the head of the Office, Andriy Yermak“, – Zelenskyy added.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his address, invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold negotiations anywhere in Donbas. The President of the Russian Federation, in turn, invited the President of Ukraine to meet in Moscow. At the same time, Putin refused to discuss the problem of Donbas and said that the Ukrainian authorities should first communicate with representatives of ORDLO, and only then with Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy replied that he would not negotiate with representatives of the occupation administrations of separate areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, since negotiations with terrorists are impossible.
The impossibility of such negotiations was also stated by the speaker of Ukrainian delegation to the TCG Oleksiy Arestovich and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
