Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomes the G7 leaders’ support for Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomes support for the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as for the important reforms in our state, which was expressed in the final communiqué of the G7 Leaders’ Summit.

In a joint statement participants of the summit noted their support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

The G7 leaders called on Russia to ease tensions and act in accordance with its international commitments and withdraw troops and weapons from Ukraine’s eastern border and reduce their concentration on the occupied Crimean Peninsula.

“We firmly adhere to the position that Russia is a party to the conflict in eastern Ukraine, and not a mediator”, – the communique says.

Also, the summit participants support the Normandy negotiation process to ensure the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The leaders of the G7 countries called on Russia and the armed formations it supports to commit to a ceasefire.

“We reaffirm our efforts to strengthen Ukrainian democracy and institutions, while encouraging further progress in reforms,” the summit participants noted.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the support for Ukraine from the G7 states.

“I am grateful to the leaders of Great Britain, Germany, Canada, Italy, the United States, France, Japan and the EU for their support of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and for calling on the aggressor to withdraw troops from our eastern borders and from Crimea. Crimea is Ukraine “, – the president emphasized.
