Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said that the so-called “Steinmeier formula” is more favorable for Russia than for Ukraine, Delfi reported.
“Someone puts strong pressure on the Ukrainian government in order to come to an agreement with the Russian side and to make a concession. But we don’t see any concessions on the Russian side,” Nausėda said at a joint press briefing with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö in Helsinki.
The Steinmeier formula – which was named for the man who devised it in 2016, former-German Foreign Minister, current-German President Frank-Walter – calls for elections in the Russian-backed-militant-held territories. According to the formula, the elections would be held under Ukrainian legislation and under the supervision of the OSCE. According to the formula, if OSCE judges found that balloting was free and fair, then a special self-governing status for the territories would be initiated and Ukraine would be returned control of its easternmost border.
