The Russian Defense Ministry has released a draft resolution which will allow for the downing of planes which violate the Russian border, according to a document published on the Russian government’s website.

The draft resolution says that Russia can force planes violating their airspace to land on the territory of Russia, or exit Russia’s airspace, and if none of that works, they will be allowed to bring the planes down.

The Russian military will take such measures when an unidentified aircraft enters a 50 kilometer zone before the Russian border.

The measures will be applied to both military and civilian aircrafts.

If a passenger plane crosses the border, there is an exception which says that “if there is no real threat to life loss and (or) ecological catastrophe, weapons and military equipment are not applied.” However, nothing is mentioned about how “real threats” are defined.

Discussions will now be held to approve the draft resolution.
