Workers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) fended off a terrorist attack in the Kharkiv Metro, the press service of the SBU reported.
Russian special services recruited a Kharkiv resident to prepare, and then conduct, the terrorist attack at one of Kharkiv’s metro stations. According to foiled plan, the impact would have resulted in numerous deaths and injuries. The goal of the attack was to cause destabilization immediately before the elections.
Representatives of the Russian special services gave the potential terrorist a bomb with a relative capacity of 0.6 kilo of TNT, powered by a telephone call. They also provided him with instructions and paid him $15,000 for the commission of the crime.
Investigators uncovered that the attacker had bought nails, screws, bolts and nuts. These were to be put in the explosive device to increase the impact and the number of deaths as well injuries to the survivors.
During the special operation, the Ukrainian intelligence service did not allow any risk to life and health of citizens. Investigators seized the explosive device from the hideout and replaced it with a fake device.
The potential terrorist was captured and has been charged with planning a terrorist attack.
