Tokyo Star Hotel Owner Remanded into Custody With No Bail
The hotel caught fire resulting in nine deaths

The owner of the Tokyo Star hotel, which caught fire, has been remanded into custody for 60 days pending trial with no option of posting bail. He is being charged with violation of fire safety requirements which resulted in death and injury.
The Tokyo Star hotel caught fire in the evening of August 17, 2019 resulting in the deaths of nine people, including one Australian citizen. Ten other hotel guests were injured, four critically, as a result of the fire.
The Kyivskyi District of Odesa court refused an offer by the chief rabbi of Odesa, Abraham Wolf, to take custody of the hotel owner, Vadym Chorny, prior to the trial when it issued its ruling on detention without bail.
