Train Traffic Between Ukraine-Russia Continues to Drop
Last year, Ukraine's national rail company transported 772,900 passengers to Russia
Over the past five years, rail transport between Ukraine and Russia has decreased by just over 64 percent.
Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine’s national rail company, said that in 2014, it transported 2.2 million passengers from Ukraine to the Russian Federation as compared to 772,900 passengers in 2018. That’s a drop of about 1.4 million passengers or about 64.3 percent fewer passengers, UNN reported.
As for passengers coming from Russia to Ukraine – in 2014 Ukrzaliznytsya transported 2.1 million passengers, last year – 760,300.
Ties between the neighboring countries soured after 2014 when Russia illegally annexed Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula and fomented war in the Donbas region.
