U.S. Ready to Strengthen Ukrainian Navy
U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia Laura Cooper visited Ukraine
The United States is preparing a response to Russia’s recent seizure of Ukrainian Navy vessels in the Sea of Azov.
“We understand that it was an obvious act of aggression from the side of the Russian Federation,” Laura Cooper, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia said, meeting Thursday with Ivanna Klimpush-Tsintsadze, who represents Ukraine in Euro-Atlantic integration.
As a part of the visit, Klimpush-Tsintsadze discussed the Ukrainian navy’s priorities and next steps, the Government portal wrote.
The two also discussed other defense-sector transformations ongoing in Ukraine. Cooper said the U.S. is ready to support Ukraine in bringing its navy and defense industry to NATO standards.
“Taking into account the latest acts of aggression against Ukraine, we highly appreciate the assistance the U.S. provides to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian Navy,” Klimpush-Tsintsadze said.
