Ukraine 12th in Arms Exports
After 2014, due to the annexation of the Crimea, Ukraine's arms exports to Russia ended
Ukraine ranked 12th on the list of countries exporting arms from 2014-2018 according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute in its analysis of last year’s international arms transfers.
Ukraine reduced its arms exports by 47 percent compared to 2009-2013, while arms imports in 2014-2018 continued to remain at a rather low level, the analysis said.
In 2009-13, Ukraine was the largest supplier of weapons to the south of the Sahara, but exports there fell by 79 percent between 2009-13 and 2014-18.
In the past, along with Thailand and China, Russia imported arms from Ukraine. However, by the end of 2014, due to its illegal annexation of Crimea, Ukraine’s trade relations with Russia ended.
The world leader in arms trade is the United States. It was the top arms exporter in 2014–18 and 2009–13. Its exports grew by 29 percent between the two periods and its share of total global exports rose from 30 percent to 36 percent. It delivered major arms to at least 98 states.
