Ukraine Appeals to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea For Release of Russian Held Sailors

The move is another step towards freeing the POWs held captive in Russia

Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko informed UN Secretary-General António Guterres about Ukraine’s appeal to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea demanding the immediate release of captured Ukrainian sailors being illegally held by Russia.

“Ambassador Volodymyr Yelchenko informed UN Secretary-General António Guterres about Ukraine’s request to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea seeking immediate release of 3 Ukrainian naval vessels and 24 servicemen on board unlawfully seized by the Russian Federation in the Black Sea on 25 November 2018,” the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN posted on Twitter.

Ukrainian diplomats add that the text of the appeal will be published as an official document of the UN General Assembly.
