Ukraine Marks Victory Over Nazism in WWII Day
More than 1,200 events are planned throughout Ukraine
Ukraine celebrates Victory Day Over Nazism in World War II today.
The purpose of the memorial day is “a worthy reverence for the feat of the Ukrainian people, its outstanding contribution to the victory of the anti-Hitler coalition in World War II and the expression of respect for all fighters against Nazism,” the presidential decree states.
The official symbol of the celebration of Victory over Nazism in World War II for several years in a row now has been the red poppy flower – the world’s generally accepted symbol of the celebration of memorable days.
It personifies both the poppy flower and the bloody trail of a bullet.
More than 1,200 public events are planned throughout Ukraine.
In connection with the solemn events, the center of Kyiv will be limited to traffic.
On Wednesday, Ukraine honored the victims of World War II.
