This week President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Chineses businesspeople
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Chineses business people to discuss developing gas fields, infrastructure, and agriculture in Ukraine.
Zelensky said that one of the main priorities of his team is guaranteeing the security of investments, the president’s press service stated.
“We exert efforts to entice investors to Ukraine. We are ready to protect the investment. But for this we need not only our desire but a new parliament and government,” he said.
Zelensky said he is particularly focused on protecting business interests from corrupt law enforcement agencies. He said that reforms have been made in the judicial system and with anti-corruption bodies.
“The High Anti-Corruption Court will start to work on Sep. 5. After the formation of the majority in the new Parliament, a new prosecutor general will be nominated. Thus, we will be able to effectively protect investors from the effects of law enforcement agencies,” he said.
Representatives of a Chinese government-owned corporation, which specializes in the construction of military infrastructure, talked about projects they could implement in Ukraine at their expense. They proposed a range of projects in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture, energy efficiency, and financial services.
Meeting attendees compiled a preliminary list of projects with an investment potential of $10 billion, which Ukraine is planning to implement in conjunction with private and state-owned Chinese companies. The National Investment Council, headed by the president, was designated as the coordinator of these projects.
