The Shevchenko District Court of Kyiv allowed Ukrainian law enforcement to conduct a special pre-trial investigation against former President Viktor Yanukovych due to the seizure of state power (part 1 of article 109 of the Criminal Code). This was announced on June 3 at the Office of the Prosecutor General, UATV informs.
The court’s decision gives the prosecution the right to conduct a pre-trial investigation against Yanukovych in his absence.
The former president is suspected of having misappropriated legislative and executive powers in September 2010 by overturning the 2004 constitutional reform.
President Yanukovych is accused under several articles of the Criminal Code. In May last year, he was given a preventive measure in the form of detention in absentia.
