At least 28 000 Crimeans were called up for Russian military service, – human rights activist
Human rights violations in the occupied Crimea and ORLDO are getting worse every year. At least 28 000 Crimeans were illegally called for Russian service during 7 years of the occupation of the peninsula. Olha Skrypnyk, coordinator of the Crimean Human Rights Group, told about this to the Dom TV channel.
“As of the end of 2020, at least 28 000 Ukrainian citizens were called for the Russian army for military service, which is a violation of international law. Criminal prosecution of people who refuse to join the army continues”, she said.
According to human rights activists, the occupation authorities opened at least 201 criminal cases for refusing to serve in the Russian army.
In the report of the US State Department published last week on the observance of human rights, it is noted that the persecution of the Crimean Tatars continues in the occupied Crimea.
“74 people are persecuted and imprisoned in so-called cases against Crimean Muslims, that is, they are accused of participating in Hizb ut-Tahrir. There are constant human rights violations against them, most of them are Crimean Tatars. There are also many activists among them and this is the real reason for their persecution, “added Skrypnyk.
In some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the situation with human rights violations is also bad. The occupation administration resorts to extrajudicial execution, kidnapping, alienation of property.
“All this happen every day, and can happen to anyone. Donbas is not the same Crimea, there are shootings there. The problem of Donbas is that there is no state there at all”, said Oleksandra Romantsova, executive director of the Center for Civil Liberties.
She also informed that if human rights were violated in the occupied territories, then these people can address to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies for help. In particular, to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Earlier, Kyiv sent a note to the Russian Federation due to provocations at the Ukrainian embassy in Moscow.
