Tough exchange of opinions: the results of the meeting of advisers to leaders of the “Normandy Four”
During the negotiations of advisers to leaders of the “Normandy Four” on settling the situation in separate areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, held on May 26, the sites haven’t come to an agreement. Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to Chairman of the Office of the President of Ukraine told this after the video conference, UATV informs.
He noted that Russia has again done everything possible to deviate from the topic of discussion and convince everyone that it is not involved in the warfare in Donbas.
Political analyst Petro Oleshchuk is convinced that the Kremlin is dragging out the negotiations until the meeting of the US and Russian presidents takes place. Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin are expected to discuss the situation in Ukraine as well.
“Different outcomes are possible. We know that Ukraine has risen the issue of necessity of changing the format, namely the need to involve other states, like USA, United Kingdom and others”, – Oleshchuk said.
According to political analyst, the involvement of other states into negotiations in the aforementioned format is likely to significantly change the nature of the very meetings and the decisions to be taken.
“On the other hands, there are doubts that Russia accepts this move positively. Anyway, I think Russia will not take any significant steps until the meeting of Biden and Putin takes place”, – political analyst added.
To remind, earlier Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba called on the EU to increase pressure on Russia in order to improve the Normandy format.
