Ukrainian Paralympic Shows His Sea Legs, Swims Across English Channel
In 18 hours, Ivanenko, who uses a wheelchair, swam 62 kilometers
Ukrainian Paralympic athlete Oleh Ivanenko swam across the English Channel and set a world record.
“In 18 hours of ongoing swimming, I covered 62 kilometers. And this is almost twice as much as expected if we sailed a straight course,” he wrote
Ivanenko said he had to tack back and forth due to strong winds and current.
Ivanenko has also crossed the Bosphorus, which is 30 kilometers long.
The Paralympic was injured in his youth and now uses a wheelchair to get around, at least, when he’s on land.
