US Department of State Approves $141.5 Million for Ukraine Security Assistance
Another $250 million from the Defense Department appears set to move as well
The United States Department of State approved $141.5 million in security assistance funding for Ukraine, including for buying sniper rifles and grenade launchers.
Clarke Cooper, assistant secretary of state for political-military affairs, announced that Congress was notified late Wednesday (Sep. 11) about the funding. The sum can be used 15 days after the notification, should there be no objection from Capitol Hill.
Another $250 million from the Defense Department appears set to move as well. This was confirmed by Senator Lindsay Graham during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing.
Earlier U.S. President Donald Trump initiated a review of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funds and the $250 million was temporarily suspended.
On Thursday, it was reported that the White House agreed to unblock the military aid.
