Usyk to Hold First Match in Heavyweight on May 25
Currently, Usyk holds IBF, WBO, and WBC world cruiserweight titles
World cruiserweight boxing champion Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk will hold the first official fight in the heavyweight division against the Cameroonian-French Carlos Takam.
The fight will take place on May 25 in Oxon Hill, Maryland at the MGM National Harbor arena.
“May 25 will be a turning point in my career when I go to the heavyweight. At the cruiserweight, I became the absolute world champion, and this is my goal in the new division. This is a real challenge, and it will begin on May 25 in a fight against Carlos Takam. This is the first fight in the new division, but I have to test my strength in a duel with a world-class rival,” Usyk said.
In 2018, Usyk won the World Boxing Super Series, defeating Mairis Briedis and Murat Gassiev.
In November 2018, Usyk defended his champion titles, defeating British Tony Bellew in Manchester.
Currently, Usyk holds IBF, WBO, and WBC world cruiserweight titles.
