Zelensky Becomes First Ukrainian President to Attend Japanese Emperor’s Enthronement
"An ancient rite in modern Japan is an example of how deep respect for traditions and the introduction of the latest high technologies can coexist in one state to improve the lives of everyone" - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky became the first Ukrainian president to attend the enthronement of a Japanese emperor.
“During their working visit to Japan, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska took part in the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito,” the president’s press service stated.
Ukraine was one of nearly 200 countries whose representatives arrived in Tokyo to attend the approximately half-hour-long ceremony. The last time a Japanese emperor ascended to the throne was 30 years ago.
Along with visiting the enthronement, Zelensky will also meet with the leadership of the chambers of the Japanese Parliament, business representatives, as well as hold a number of talks with foreign leaders.
