Latvian aid is of extreme importance for Ukraine, especially in the humanitarian sphere and the rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated during the joint press briefing with the President of Latvia Egils Levits after their meeting.
“Humanitarian aid is extremely important to us. It includes rehabilitation of our defenders in Latvian medical facilities, cargo shipments with humanitarian aid, and the organization of recreation for children left without parents as a result of the war in Eastern Ukraine. Recently, the Latvian government invited Ukrainian sailors liberated from captivity to undergo rehabilitation and treatment,” Zelensky said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Latvian side for assistance with the implementation of European standards, based on the EU-Ukraine association agreement, and for help with reforms of the Armed Forces in accordance with NATO standards.
“We will increase cooperation in these spheres,” Zelensky said.
The President of Latvia also said that the sailors that had been held by Russia will undergo treatment in Latvia and confirmed the prolongation of the program for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers in general.
During the briefing, journalists asked about the activities in areas of disengagement in the JFO area.
“If the ceasefire lasts seven days, and everybody, not only our side, will be ready for the withdrawal, then the next steps will be negotiated,” Zelensky answered.
