Zelensky to Simplify Procedure for Obtaining Ukrainian Citizenship
Foreigners and stateless persons who defended Ukraine, and citizens of the Russian Federation who were subjected to political persecution can obtain Ukrainian citizenship under the simplified procedure

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree that expanded the list of documents that may be the basis for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship.
Among the persons who can obtain Ukrainian citizenship under the new procedure are foreigners and stateless persons who defended Ukraine, and citizens of the Russian Federation who were subjected to political persecution, presidential decree reported.
Zelensky instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to draft and submit for consideration by the Ukrainian Parliament a draft law aimed at simplifying the procedure for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship.
Also, by this decree, the Cabinet of Ministers is instructed to develop a draft law of Ukraine on the procedure for granting asylum for foreign and stateless citizens.
In addition, the president instructed the government to optimize the process of considering applications of citizens of the Russian Federation for recognition as a refugee or a person who needs additional protection, and adoption of appropriate decisions in the prescribed manner.
The decree comes into force from the day of its publication.
